Jenaro y yo llegamos ayer a varias conclusiones:

Ana,

Thank you for your reply on my blog.

I was on Gran Canaria only for a week, just to get some sunshine. I really enjoyed it and I haven't even been to the beach! We stayed in Playa del Ingles, that's where all the cheap flights go to. Nearby Gruimes (I think it's called) we visited to walk around and try a restaurant we found in a travel guide (it's in a hotel next to a camel, sounds weird but is true). Also took a guided bustour over the island, which shows you some tourist things (cavehouses, museums, vistas) and lets you taste local wine, mojo sauce and cheese. I'm sure a day trip is a bit too short to see the island but we did travel something like 300 km.
I found a museum in Las Palmas very interesting. It was completely dedicated to the pre-Spanish Canarios, it's located near the cathedral. If I'll go a 2nd time to Gran Canaria I'll stay in Las Palmas because it seemed a relaxed city to me.
We liked the local beer very much, went to see the animals in Los Palmitas (the birdshows are great), ate nice food and had a very relaxing (but too short) holiday.
You wrote you lived in Madrid for a long time. I'd find it hard to choose between the two. I know Madrid quite well because my brother lived there for a few years and I had a girlfriend there for a year. Always enjoyed going there (long live the cheap Transavia flights!). Brother is now moving to Paris, that'll be a change...
I'm sorry my Spanish is too bad to enjoy your blog but I'll learn the language once in my life, just don't know when yet...

Take care,
Tjalling
